Beloit College offers many international programs that allow students to study environmental issues.
Off Campus Study
Washington Semester Beloit College participates in the Washington semester program which enables students to spend a term in specialized study in the nation’s capital. Students use the facilities of the American University while investigating a broad range of political and governmental activities and topics. Internships, research projects, and a seminar course introduce students to the personalities and institutions of Washington.
Semester in Environmental Science The program, which takes place each fall semester at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, stresses an ecosystems-ecology approach to the study of environmental science. It provides students with intensive field and laboratory study of diverse ecosystems in the context of two core courses: Terrestrial Ecosystems and Aquatic Ecosystems.
Maritime Studies Program
An interdisciplinary program on which undergraduates of all majors share one semester at Mystic Seaport to focus on the past, present, and future of the earth’s oceans. Williams-Mystic combines the academic excellence of Williams College and the unparalleled learning environment of Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and The Sea.
In the SEA Semester, students from all disciplines have a chance to study the ocean from many academic perspectives. The first part of the semester is at the Cape Cod campus and the second half is on a tall ship doing scientific research on either the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, depending upon the semester.
Sustainability
The Sustainability Program at Beloit is coordinated by students who are dedicated to raising environmental and cultural sustainability literacy through on-campus activities and through the development and strengthening of mutually beneficial community partnerships.
